Tomorrow’s News, Today

 

Did you ever watch the television program about a  man who receives  tomorrow’s newspaper, the day before? The program evolves around this man stopping accidents and other things  from happening because he has prior knowledge of it.

I just finished reading the Book of Isaiah and have started reading Jeremiah.  These were two true prophets telling the people that if they didn’t repent from their failure to obey  The One True  Living  God, their Nation would be over taken by foreigners and they would either die or go into captivity. God sent these Prophets to tell the Rulers and the people what was going to happen.  The situation worsened. They didn’t believe the prophets; they didn’t believe God would lift His Protective Hand.

A  number of people today in the USA believe nothing can ever happen to the United States. We will always be “number one” because we are the “good guys”. Some who never mention God or even seem to believe in God say that “God wouldn’t let anything happen to our country”. In Old Testament times, when  the Jewish Nation was divided into Israel and Judah, they were convinced that God would always protect them and they would win in the end because God was with them.

And the Bible states, that their practices became an abomination to the Lord. The Priests and people went to the Church and gave offerings as was expected of the “respectable people” but they lived by whatever  standards they set for themselves in both the business arena and at home. Priests allowed promiscuous behavior ( even at times, they were a part of it)--- just bring another offering to pay for the ongoing sin. But there was no repentance. People didn’t stop their behavior or even allow themselves to consider it wrong, because “everybody was doing it “. There was a belief by the majority, that it was okay to do whatever was  pleasing—relations out of marriage, homosexual behavior, killing of infants,  selling of infants, doing business on God’s ordained day of rest & worship, telling “little white lies” if it meant keeping the people satisfied, going to war without inquiring of God, whether it was God’s Will,( When it was in accordance with God’s Will, He was with them and few, if any warrior lives’ would be lost, and, of course, the war, won);  there was also a basic apathy towards God and His role in everyone’s daily life.

God removed His protective Hand, but only after warnings and warnings, and asking His People to return to Him in His love.

So here we are.

 In the United States, billions of dollars are lost in gambling, but recent stats place money from pornography as topping that. The fashion statement for our daughters is the attire worn by prostitutes, business as usual Seven days of the week, children being “bought” from surrogate Mothers by practicing homosexuals, abortion as a form of birth control, CEO(s) going to jail for taking “off the top for themselves”, parents working long  hours outside the home, leaving TV, video games and computers to offer up the values of the day, everybody running to go some place, practice for sports, etc.., secular  activities being more important than Church activities, while some  Church activities becoming  secular –to draw the people in, rather than relying on God’s  Word and what God wants for His people, sexual activity outside of marriage,  and some congregants living together out of marriage but because they are active in the Church it goes  unnoticed in their Churches, and then there is a  prevailing national attitude that God lives for “me” and to make me happy .

There are many people who have good intentions and are basically good people. I know, I was one of them. However, until I began reading God’s Word and praying that God would show me His Will for my life, many times I was on a misleading road. Now I understand the saying, –“ The road to hell is paved with good intentions”.

 Jer. 16: 8 b - 11 & 21 “..For this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Before your eyes and in your days I will bring an end to the sounds of joy and gladness and to the Bride and Bridegroom in this place. When you tell the people all this and they ask you, ‘Why has the Lord decreed such great disaster against us? What wrong have we done? What sin have we committed against the Lord our God?’ Then say to them, it is because your fathers forsook me, declares the Lord...They forsook me and did not keep my law. But you have behaved more wickedly than your fathers. See how each of you is following the stubbornness of his own heart instead of obeying me....”

 .....Therefore I will teach them—this time I will teach them my Power and my Might.

 THEN THEY WILL KNOW THAT MY NAME IS THE LORD.  ( emphases added. NIV text).

I pray for us, this country and the people of the this world, to return to worshiping God, our Maker, Redeemer and Comforter, and following His laws.
